THESE CLASSES WILL TAKE PLACE EVERY WEDNESDAY AT: WESTGATE BAPTIST COMMUNITY HALL, 16 HIGH STREET YARRAVILLE. Swing Rock is where Swing dancing meets Rock N Roll! We use concepts from both general styles, and also use connection concepts from other swing styles such as West Coast Swing. You can dance to traditional Swing OR Rock N Roll music! We use single, double and triple footwork in both a 6 beat and 8 beat count base. Footwork and body movement is a reflection of musicality and what you hear in the song, while the lead and follow is body-based rather than arm-based. ​As classes gain momentum we have the opportunity to extend our hall time to include social dancing after classes as well! ​PUBLIC TRANSPORT: 10 mins walk from Yarraville Train Station ​LENGTH OF GROUP CLASSES: 60 Mins LEVEL 1: Perfect for new dancers, or dancers wishing to cement their basics and techniques. We learn the building blocks of Basic, Turning Basic, Under Arm Turn, Return, Pick Up, and how to combine them into a Swing Rock Flow Basic. We also start learning how to 'connect', for followers to sit back into the lead, and for leads to move their Flow Basic and contribute to the Flow of movement that is a huge part of Swing Rock. LEVEL 2: Dancers need to comfortably lead and/or follow the Steps and Techniques from Level 1. If you're unsure about your level, then have a quick dance assessment with Jei before class. Level 2 is about learning how we Flow new steps such as American Spin, Cuddles, Sweethearts, and how we change up our timing from regular Rock N Roll to Swing timing, and how we use that to create breath and walks.
