Modern Swing, also know as West Coast Swing, is a modern take on a version of Swing that is danced to current music you hear played on the radio and in the clubs. It is an educated lead and follow that is a conversation between the lead and follow, and which is danced "on the slot". Modern Swing can even incorporate other dance styles and moves, and both leaders and followers have more ability to express themselves in different ways than in most other dances. Hip Hop, Latin, Tango and many other styles of dance can influence Modern Swing movement. Our focus is on social dancing rather than competitive dancing, which allows your originality and self expression free rein! We also focus on leading and following rather than steps based learning, which helps promote dance conversation through incorporating movements from a broad range of dance styles into Modern Swing... and this is where Fusion comes in! Develop musical movement to elevate the basics to make your dancing look and feel amazing! ​As classes gain momentum we have the opportunity to extend our hall time! ​PUBLIC TRANSPORT: 10 mins walk from Yarraville Train Station ​LENGTH OF GROUP CLASSES: 60 Mins 630pm - SOCIAL DINNER Fuel up for your night of dancing, and meet other dancers in a social context. 730pm - FOUNDATIONS Perfect for new dancers, or dancers wishing to cement their basics and techniques. We learn how the lead and follow feel, how to stretch and compress, how to listen to each other through our movements, and how this leads into our first few dance steps. 830pm - EXTENSIONS You need to be comfortable with the concepts from the Foundations Class. We take our dancing up a notch and learn how to start moving our groove in our own unique way, and find our own individual flavour. We explore how our 2 step base dance units become 6 count and 8 count patterns, and we continue to explore our dance possibilities and conversations. 930pm - SOCIAL DANCING Chill out on the dance floor and practice your moves! COST: $25 for the night, whether you do one or both classes! --- $10 for the night when you attend and eat dinner at The Victoria Hotel before class on the first week every month --- Everyone is welcome to attend!
