No teaching, no classes, just a time to work on your moves and have some fun from 8pm to 10pm at Dance House in Carlton North on Tuesdays. This is not a facilitated social dance night, so don't expect a DJ lol.

Rock'n'Roll is a term used for dancing to music from the 50's and 60s... think Elvis Presley, Bill Haley & His Comets, the Cadillacs and more. The styles that will be covered in this group class are 4 Step, 8 Step, and Freestyle Pub Rock.

Different dance communities have different names for these styles. Different groups also have different names for the same steps... but it's ALL Rock'n'Roll... and it's all fun!
In NZ, 4 Step is called Single, and in Ballroom groups it is sometimes called Street Jive. 8 Step in NZ is called Triple, and Freestyle Pub Rock is very similar to a Rock'n'Roll style called Ceroc.

These classes are for dancers who are new to dancing or at a beginner level.
Our focus will be on learning the basic steps, variations on theose steps, and how to elevate the basics to make your dancing look and feel amazing! Even intermediate and advanced dancers benefit from learning new variations and style of movements to incorporate into their dancing!

Everyone is welcome to attend!

We support degendering in dance, so you can dance whichever role you choose: Lead or Follow.
Across Australia and the world, dance scenes are embracing that first and foremost we are ALL just dancers... enjoying social interactions and our love of music interpretated through movement.
Dancers are also embracing that knowing BOTH sides of any partner dance, makes your dancing better!

West Coast Swing is a modern take on a version of Swing that is danced to current music you hear played on the radio and in the clubs. It is an educated lead and follow that is a conversation between the lead and follow, and which is danced "on the slot".
West Coast Swing can even incorporate other dance styles and moves, and both leaders and followers have more ability to express themselves in different ways than in most other dances. Hip Hop, Latin, Tango and many other styles of dance can influence West Coast Swing movement.

HERE'S WHAT'S ON THE DRAWING BOARD...
The concept for Kick Up Your Heels is to strap on a pair of heels and learn to strut, pose, and move to contemporary music. Taking inspiration from the amazing French choreographer Yanis Marshall... but keeping movements simple and fun!

Everyone is welcome to attend!

You don't need to own a pair of platform heels to participate, or even a pair of regular heels. Movements are choreographed with heels in mind as heels can accentuate poses and body movement, as well as lending a greater understanding of balance and co-ordination. Feel free to attend class and practice in casual shoes, work your way up to struttng your stuff in heels.
